Textbook Options Strategies Or Real Options Strategies

What is the difference? Some may shout.

There is indeed a very BIG difference. I used to search for options strategies all the time as I thought it will make me a better trader. But does it really help a trader to trade better?

My answer is Yes (30%) and No (70%). Most “options strategies” searches (both online or offline) normally lead to what I call the textbook strategies. Textbook strategies are those that you can find in the books from any bookstores or even FREE online. In case you do not know, there are more than 50 types of textbook options strategies in the market. They are like the “straddles, strangles, butterfly spread, calendar spreads, iron condor and whatsoever”.

The answer was a 30% Yes because it may help you adjust your trades at times and 70% No because in most cases, you don’t need them.

In the past, I used to want to know all the strategies but after mastering the 26th, I stopped. Because I start to realise that I use less than 5 of them to profit from the market. And the best part is, most of my trades are purely based on buying calls and puts contracts.

Whenever people ask, “if you are only trading calls and puts, why don’t you just stick to stocks?” And the questions usually come from the people who know many textbook strategies. But my answer is always simple. “Options trading offer me the leverage and flexibility that stocks cannot provide.”

And for me, I chose not to focus on all these textbook strategies and instead focus on real options strategies.

What are real options strategies? In another words, it is analysis. I prefer to just stick to the simple buy call and put contracts rather than to perform a complicated trade and end up paying more commission (although it is cheap).

I focus on studying the market movement, when to enter and when to exit. And once I have identify when to enter, I will just buy a call if I believe the market will continue going up or buy a put otherwise.

This way, I keep my trading as simple as possible so that I can use the rest of my time to accompany my loved ones. Isn’t that why you picked up or plan to pick up trading for? If yes, then keep things simple!

However, I am not asking you to just know how to buy calls and puts. There are some textbook strategies that will be useful for you and you may want to read on and understand. Those that I believe are useful are the spreads.

If you do not know what they are, go grab any options trading book and study debit and credit spreads. It will be useful for you if you wish to be on the road of options trading.

Remember; keep trading as simple as possible.

Google Says Adios to Gears, Hola to HTML5

Earlier today we explained how HTML5 will change the way you use the web, including how HTML5-supported offline access handles basically the same functionality as Google's Gears browser plug-in. It seems that Google's well aware of this fact, too, and the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Google is "letting the sun set" on Gears:

"We are excited that much of the technology in Gears, including offline support and geolocation APIs, are being incorporated into the HTML5 spec as an open standard supported across browsers, and see that as the logical next step for developers looking to include these features in their websites," wrote a Google spokesman in an e-mail.

It's good news in the long run, but not all that great of news for many in the short-term, considering Gears isn't available (and won't be) for Snow Leopard, and Chrome for Mac won't support Gears. In a nutshell, that means a lot of people won't be able to fully take advantage of either Gears or HTML5 during the interim

Diabetes Mellitus in Children

Our bodies depend on glucose for energy. In order for the body to utilize the glucose, the cells of the body have to extract it from the blood. To do this they need a hormone known as insulin. Insulin is produced in the pancreas. If the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin or if the cells of the body do not respond correctly to the insulin that is produced the level of glucose in the blood will increase because the glucose is not being absorbed by the body's cells. The result is a disease called diabetes mellitus or more commonly diabetes.

The normal glucose level in the blood is from 65 to 120 milligrams per deciliter or (mg/dL). Under normal circumstances this balance is maintained in spite of a surge of sugar following eating a meal or snack or a few hours without sugar when one doesn't eat, for example, at night while sleeping. However, when insulin is not produced or utilized normally, the balance is disrupted and glucose levels either rise too high or fall too low. There are three types of diabetes mellitus: Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes.

The form of diabetes that is common to children is Type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes usually affects adults over forty years of age although it can develop in children and this is now happening more often than in the past. Gestational diabetes is restricted to pregnant women. Type 1 diabetes is classified as an auto-immune disease.

Because the immune system attacks the insulin producing cells of the pancreas, the body has less insulin available than is required. Type 1 may be genetic or it can be the result of a virus. Scientists are not sure about this. Both boys and girls are equally susceptible to Type 1 diabetes.

Scientists also do not understand why Type 2 diabetes is suddenly starting to affect children. However, they believe that this may be due to overweight and inactivity. Symptoms of diabetes in children include excessive thirst and urination, weight loss or failure to gain weight, fatigue and large appetite. Since treatment can be a lifetime procedure, it is important that parents and children work together to manage the diabetes. The child must learn the importance of checking and maintaining proper blood sugar levels. If insulin injections are required, the child must learn how to do this and must know the schedule for the injections.

Maintaining a proper diet is extremely important and this may be difficult with children. Parents can control what the child eats at home but away from home and in school is a different matter. Most young children are fond of sugar snacks such as candy and these need to be avoided. However, diabetic children can have sugarless candy.
Diabetic children also need to eat on a regular schedule of meals interspersed with healthy snacks. In addition, they must follow a regular exercise program. Teachers and school administrators should always be advised if a child is diabetic and they need to be informed of medication schedules and diet.
